Detlevstraße, Berlin
Urban planning ideas and implementation competition, 2nd prize
The plan is to build 400 residential units on the challenging, elongated plot of land. At the same time, the proposed development is intended to protect itself and the adjacent residential area to the west from noise pollution, among other things.
A continuous building design is proposed, functioning essentially as a gallery-access building, with no living spaces facing east. The gallery serves only for access and sound insulation. It is unheated and naturally ventilated.
The urban design is divided into legible sections and can be implemented in different construction phases and by different authors.
Lower, L-shaped buildings are arranged in front of and as a transition to the single-family houses, each defining a thematically assigned courtyard (e.g. children's playground or football pitch).
