Hausvogteiplatz, Berlin
Completed in 1895, this office building is centrally located in the Berlin-Mitte district, very close to Gendarmenmarkt. The building complex is a protected historical ensemble, and the street-facing facade on Hausvogteiplatz is also a listed building. The four- or five-story structure is grouped around four equally sized courtyards, the fourth of which opens onto the adjacent open space. The complex consists of a front building and three rear buildings with their respective side wings.
The planning for the conversion and modernization of the existing building essentially involves removing existing structural and technical installations from the floor plan to create spacious, freely divisible loft-style spaces of varying sizes. The individual units can accommodate both combined and single office spaces, including associated service areas (restrooms, kitchenette, etc.).
The existing dilapidated attic space will be given a contemporary interpretation based on historical documents and converted into loft-style living space. The roof design has been coordinated with the city planning office and the historic preservation authority.
