Base development of the television tower, Berlin
The base of the Berlin television tower on Alexanderplatz was built in 1969 at the same time as the television tower. At the beginning of the 1990s, large parts of the building were converted for a television station and, after it was taken over by TV-Berlin in the mid-1990s, an extension was added. The planned renovation essentially relates to the expansion in the mid-1990s. The existing office use of the connecting span building will be dismantled on the upper floor and converted into a predominantly tourist-oriented shopping arcade with small retail areas and restaurants in order to open the building part to the public again as part of the ensemble. The shopping arcade will be connected to the Alexanderplatz S-Bahn station by new entrances over the existing bridges of the monument.
