Administrative building, Passau
The guiding principle of the design is to give the building a strong urban and visual presence as a public building, without neglecting security requirements. This is achieved by creating a compact yet lightweight structure with three courtyards, seemingly floating on a freely accessible plateau that separates the public from the private areas.
The simple, three-story volume of the main building integrates seamlessly into the heterogeneous surroundings without dominating the neighboring buildings. The building stands on a platform beneath which the garage is located, accessible at ground level at the bend in Karlsbader Straße. This platform defines (and delimits) the publicly accessible space, including a well-designed forecourt between the building and the parking area.
